Alice Cooper
Favorite album:
Pretties For You
The Alice Cooper Group's first foray. The live from the Cheeta take of Levity Ball is true rock.
Jefferson Starship
Favorite album:
Blows Against The Empire
I can't put a picture on this one because of the uniqueness of this album and the artists. Although the band name is Jefferson Starship it predates the actual formation of Jefferson Starship by four years. This 1970 Paul Kantner concept album features many of the artists of the day. Members of Jefferson Airplane (Grace Slick, Jack Casady, Joey Covington), The Grateful Dead (Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (David Crosby, Graham Nash), David Freiberg of Quicksilver Messenger Service and Harvey Brooks of Electric Flag. The concept is the hijacking of a starship. A representation of the youth angst of the turbulent time. This was the year of Kent State, The Vietnam War, Richard Nixon. This selection is a piece of art
The Great Society
Favorite album:
Conspicuous Only in Its Absence
Grace Slick before the Jefferson Airplane. This was orginally recorded in 1966 at the Matrix Theater but wasn't released until 1968. Good San Francisco Sound music.
Big Brother & the Holding Company
Favorite album:
Cheap Thrills
Janis Joplin at her rawest and best and in my opinion this is the band should have stayed with. Bad, bad, evil, evil record companies whispering inuendos while holding the world a hands grasp away.
Ten Years After
Favorite album:
A Space In Time
This album came out the year I graduated high school (1969) and it just a fab down right rocker from the biggest guy I ever saw play a guitar. "50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain" rocks my sox off everytime. I love the lines; Can you love me with a thousand eyes, can you see right through my bones ? Can you kiss me with a thousand lips, can you love a solid stone ? Can you hear me from a thousand miles, when I'm screamin' at the stars ? Can you pull me up to Jupiter, when I'm all hung up on Mars ?
Fleetwood Mac
Favorite album:
Then Play On
This 1969 treat is the pre commercial line up of the band. This is an all balls boy band consisting of Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, John McVie, Jeremy Spencer. Hot doo-doo Maynard! This stuff was played on then what was known as underground radio.
Savoy Brown
Favorite album:
Jack The Toad
This 1973 album is a rare treasure of blues meet country rock British style.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Favorite album:
Electric Ladyland
Best listened with a headset while stoned or trippin'! Remember this was the day when tubes ruled the amplifiers and digital pertained to a digit or finger.
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Favorite album:
Happy Trails
This is one of the ultimate live albums ever produced.
Grateful Dead
Favorite album:
American Beauty
What is not to like about them...
